ABSTRACT

The cardiovascular system comprises a pump and pipe system for the transport of oxygen and nutrients to, and waste products from, all the cells in the body. In heart disease, the pump function will suffer. In vascular disease, the transport function will suffer. Since the tissues are dependent on this pump and pipe system, disease in the heart or vascular system can present as disease or malfunction in different organs, usually in several simultaneously.
