ABSTRACT
Written communication is an important but often neglected area in nursing and is
increasingly emphasised in relation to documentation and record-keeping. The NMC
(2008b, p. 7) states that ‘record-keeping is an integral part of nursing and midwifery
practice. It is a tool of professional practice and one that should help the care process.’
