Applying topical medication to the skin

For application of ointment or cream to the skin, gloves should be worn if someone

other than the patient is applying the medication. This is partly to prevent cross-

infection from you to the patient and vice versa, but also to prevent you absorbing

any of the medication applied into your own skin.
