ABSTRACT
Consent to ECT Construct: This station tests the candidate’s ability to give sufficient information to the patient to assist him or her to arrive at a decision whether to accept ECT or not.
Main issues to be covered:
(ECG), etc. • Explaining how it works. • Explaining potential benefits, adverse effects and alternatives to ECT. • Explaining whether the Mental Health Act can be invoked or not. • Establishing patient’s beliefs, concerns, fears and expectations and addressing
them.
