ABSTRACT

Background Mark had just begun face-to-face therapy and his therapist suggested that he fill out a depression questionnaire weekly so that they could get a grasp on his progress. The therapist asked Mark if he was a regular Internet user, and since Mark said he was, the therapist suggested that they would create an online profile for Mark that he could log into and fill out the measure online that could be viewed by the therapist before each upcoming session. Mark could also post messages to the therapist and check his appointments online, which was an added convenience. In addition, the web site provided an overview of Mark’s progress so that he could monitor how he was doing himself. When therapy ended Mark commented that it had been useful to have the opportunity to complete measures online since he sometimes lost papers and forgot appointments when he was in distress.
