ABSTRACT

As exempli–ed by each of the cases in the previous chapters, the development and the adoption of green products and green energy alternatives have seen tremendous growth in recent years. Although human beings have shown remarkable capacity for adaptation and survival at the individual and at the community levels, the challenges we are expected to face in the centuries ahead suggest the need for concerted action at a broader scale. Population growth, climate change, social and income inequality, weapons of mass destruction, and public health failures are but a few examples of dangers that if leµ unchecked could threaten our very collective existence on the planet. Green technologies are expected to be an integral part of the antidotes to these threats. It is therefore advisable to understand not only successful patterns in the innovation and adoption of these technologies but also reasons for failure when that may have been the case.
