ABSTRACT

Standard Work In Chapter 2, we stated that, like all Lean production methods, standard work maximizes performance and minimizes the seven wastes (see Figure 2.2). In Chapter 3, we stated that standard work was a tool used to allocate worker and process time in proportion to patient demand. Standard work defines the most reliable work procedures and sequences for each process and operation so that clinicians and staff members can easily change positions within the process as needed to meet current patient demand. Standard work describes individual procedures, their sequence, and their timing to meet patient demand with the most effective deployment of clinicians and support staff.
