ABSTRACT

Overview Electronic medical records (EMRs) are not the only component of the health industry that has been steered by technological advancements. There also has been rapid expansion in the usage of (1) mobile health, or healthcare applications on mobile devices (laptops, cell phones) that cater to a patient’s health in the form of patient-controlled health records, as well as (2) patient-physician interactive health technology (like EMRs), which includes telemedicine and telehealth. The focus of this final chapter is the patient, as patient-controlled health records (PHRs) are an extremely important part of the dynamic electronic health industry. The patient also may be the root of the e-health industry, especially if outcomes are to be patient-focused going forward in the future.
