ABSTRACT

An underwater investigation dive team is a dynamic creature that must be nourished and cultivated. Nothing about diving or dive operations remains the same. An integral part of a dive operation is the bringing together of persons best suited for the task. Dive callouts are often difficult to staff. Callouts may find the number of responding personnel limited and on occasion nonexistent. Most police agencies have volunteer teams (within the agency) made up of officers from various sections or divisions on different shifts and at different locations. In underwater operations, injury and death await the unprepared or poorly equipped or trained and those teams that do not work as a unit. All applicants for positions on the underwater investigation team (dive recovery team) must pass a physical. The world of the underwater investigator revolves around water. Many teams require swimming skills testing as an entry requirement to the underwater recovery team.
