ABSTRACT

Development of a successful supply chain security program depends on a number of elements or ingredients. The supply chain is affected when they attempt to use legitimate means for illegitimate purposes. Supply chain security professionals, as in other professions and activities in business life, are sometimes looked upon to be jacks-of-all-trades. The goal of an effective supply chain security program is really quite simple: Protect the goods, materials, and products from those who would take or hold them for their own. The supply chain security program should protect them from theft, pilferage, infiltration, and contamination while they travel end to end along the supply chain. The antiterrorism elements added to supply chain security programs are twofold. Supply chain security is an industry within an industry. Supply chain security is a specialized function. The supply chain is affected when they attempt to use legitimate means for illegitimate purposes. Smuggling enterprises have always used their own methods of transportation and concealment.
