ABSTRACT

As we’ve discussed before, long changeover times and changeover material losses generally have more negative influence on production scheduling than any other factors. They tend to drive long production cycles, which in turn lead to high inventories, and more importantly, loss of manufacturing flexibility and agility. And because changeover losses often depend on specific operating characteristics for each product, and can vary depending on which product you’re coming from and which product you’re going to, it’s imperative that you select the optimum sequence to minimize these losses.
