ABSTRACT

To look more closely at how the pull system works, suppose that bonder 2 needs 12 rolls of product A to execute its schedule. Bonder 2 will pull 12 rolls from the supermarket, which will load a signal on the forming 2 wheel schedule to replace those 12 rolls. Suppose further that bonder 2 needs an additional 16 rolls of product A the next day to produce to its schedule. Again, it will pull the required number of rolls from the supermarket, which loads the requirement for 16 additional product A rolls on the forming wheel schedule. When the product A spoke comes around on forming 2, the number of rolls that have been pulled from the supermarket will be produced on the A spoke. Alternatively, forming 2 could simply wait until the spoke for product A arrives and then check the current inventory status to know what has been pulled and should be replenished. Each process gives the same result; the specific mechanism for accumulating the information is at the choice of the wheel design team.
