ABSTRACT
The state of Israel has been shaped by ancient and modern history, and so have its laws. The laws of modern Israel are derived from many diverse sources, including Israeli legislative acts, British mandate law, Ottomans, and religious laws. The nation’s criminal justice institutions trace their origins to the period that preceded the establishment of the state. Israel proclaimed its independence on May 15, 1948.
