ABSTRACT

Because œnancial crimes incorporate planning, business acumen, and deception, they o‰en take place over a long period of time before the e›ects are recognized. ere are two main reasons why detection of œnancial fraud takes a longer period of time. e œrst is that the plan for the fraud is designed to be concealed from the victim. e second is that œnancial crooks will usually start small and as time passes without detection they will be emboldened to take more and more. When the amounts of the œnancial fraud become greater, the victims will realize that something is wrong even if they do not know what it is or the perpetrators’ gain will begin to appear way out of line with their legitimate earnings.
