ABSTRACT

You have arrived at the Analyze Phase and, specically, at Step 7 of dene-measure-analyze-improve-control (DMAIC). In this chapter, we will look at the internals of processes from a statistical point of view. We will conduct a quick review of basic statistics so that you understand and can have con- dence in these tools. You will learn how to take the historical data you have collected and express them in terms of process variation and the probabilities of producing defects. You will do this for both continuous and discrete data. You will look at the nature of defects and how to identify the minimal required process sigma in order for your customer to get what he or she wants.
