It is in this phase that you will drill deep into the Xs and Ys, experimenting with potential changes to conrm their degree and types of impact on your process. Depending on the complexity of your process, you will look to remove non-value-added steps; change suppliers; develop and exploit “transfer functions,” which you learn about in Chapter 19; and build any number of other solutions that your investigations may lead you to.
