ABSTRACT

Over the past century, surgical care has evolved into a more standardized and evidence-based practice, with numerous national and international organizations, such as Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), The Joint Commission, World Health Organization (WHO), and the National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (NSQIP) providing guidelines to improve surgical quality. Surgical quality initiatives at BHCS are aligned with implementing the national and international initiatives, but numerous internal improvement initiatives have also been developed to drive quality across Surgical Services.
