ABSTRACT

To complement the efforts of the criminal justice structures in crime prevention, it is important to involve the communities in finding a solution to the menace of crime in the society. Visser (2003) defines community policing as both a philosophy and a strategy that is based on partnership between the community and the police to find creative solutions for contemporary community problems, crime, and other crime-related matters. In this definition, the thesis is the involvement of the communities in policing.
