ABSTRACT

The overall picture we have painted is that to sustain operational improvements you first need to have a stable structure before you can improve processes. Once you have a stable structure, you keep it stable by managing the performance, using SMART (simple, measurable, accurate and actionable, reliable and relevant, timely) metrics, and supporting the structure that keeps operations stable and focused on improvement. This book has shown how to produce a stable structure using the functional tree structure (FTS). Managing performance and providing a supportive structure will help to solidify the culture of quality needed for an organization to grow (Figure 7.1).
