ABSTRACT

Introduction Much of the discussion of policy initiatives on narcotrafficking is aimed at the national level. The intent of this chapter is to provide a local perspective and view from Hidalgo County, Texas, which is across the border from cities such as Reynosa and Rio Bravo, Tamaulipas, Mexico. This is one county along an almost 2,000 mile border, separating the United States from Mexico. National issues important to both the United States and Mexico converge on the border.
