ABSTRACT

Introduction These lines begin a reflection on the effects of violent death. This topic, particularly the phenomenon and significance of extreme violence in Mexico, emerged as a result of the so-called war on drugs, which has intensified enormously in recent years. This violence is not only the result of common crimes, but also includes murders, kidnappings, and confrontations caused by the escalating conflict between organized crime (drug gangs) and government efforts to contain them. The fight against drug trafficking has exposed us to forms of violence intended to provoke terror and induce fear in the population, like torture, decapitation, and dismemberment.
