ABSTRACT

Introduction Once one makes the decision to hire a consultant, or consulting firm, there are many steps to be completed before the contract is signed. The request for information (RFI) and request for proposal (RFP) are two useful tools in the consultant selection and hiring process. Both of these documents, if properly used, can bring clarity and organization to a potentially complex decision. This chapter will cover many of the basics for using RFIs and RFPs such as:

◾ How to identify the initial list of potential consultants ◾ Outlining the project scope ◾ Preparing an RFI and RFP including typical questions and topics to cover ◾ Ideas for conducting the evaluation and decision-making process
