ABSTRACT

If psychology plays no part in acupuncture, why then do we spend time to discuss the subject? The answer is simple: Acupuncture is used primarily to deal with pain, and there is a great deal of psychology in pain. When medical professionals raise the issues of pain, psychological elements or factors are nearly always involved. Therefore, when we talk of using acupuncture to manage pain, certain psychological aspects need to be addressed. This chapter on psychology in acupuncture is included for this purpose.
