The Economics Student (contd) It will be remembered from Chapter 1 that this girl suffered a depressive attack while on holiday with a young man and another girl, and that her symptoms disappeared when she was able first to realize that she was suffering from jealousy in this competitive situation, and then to express her feelings to the other two people involved. Another important fact was that her depressive symptoms included a feeling of self-hatred, which was tentatively interpreted as an expression of guilt.
