ABSTRACT
Officer-Involved Shootings (OISs) and Use of Deadly Force Incidents Police-related shooting incidents (OISs and incidents involving the use of deadly force) involve the discharge of a firearm by a sworn officer in the performance of duty resulting in injury or death. The necessary and appropriate use of this authority is an awesome responsibility. The decision to use deadly force is based on the circumstances as presented at the time of the incident. The final determination of justification, however, is based on law.
