ABSTRACT

The term correlation is defined as “a relation existing between phenomena or things or between mathematical or statistical variables which tend to vary, be associated, or occur together in a way not expected on the basis of chance alone.”2 Another definition indicates that it is a “mutual relationship or connection between two or more things.”3 Using simple English, “correlation involves a measure of the degree to which two variables are related to each other.”4 Although correlation may be used to examine the potential strength of relationships between the examined variables, it is not representative of causation.
