ABSTRACT

I would use these methods to achieve and compare my capabilities and reliability as a competitive weapon. I would be the only healthcare institution that is able to state capability, and I could set the bar. If other healthcare institutions feel that these are complex, that is in my favor too. This is called a barrier to entry. Higher reliability gained through capability provides value to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS); the National Health Service in the United Kingdom; major payers such as Blue Cross Blue Shield and Bupa; and major corporations including Caterpillar, Ford, Toyota, Walmart, TESCO, and, most importantly, to us and our loved ones as patients. This is a barrier because very few healthcare organizations are using capability as described in this book resulting in

reliability. No one else is prepared to provide such a competitive advantage.
