ABSTRACT

Palo Mayombe and Bantu traditions (Las Reglas de Congo) Among the Afro-Caribbean religions that are appropriated by drug traffickers, Palo Mayombe is considered to be an aggressive spiritual practice. Palo Mayombe is one of the many traditions found in the group of religions known as Reglas de Congo (Rule or Law of the Congo). Reglas de Congo is a term used to refer to the numerous religious traditions of the Bantu people of Central Africa. These traditions include a number of religious cultures that are seen in the United States. Outsiders to the religions of Reglas de Congo frequently refer to it as the dark side of Santería. This is an inaccurate description, as the religion is not the same as the Yoruba practice of Santería.
