ABSTRACT
Once data are extracted from medical devices, they are translated into a common format (e.g., HL7) and transmitted to the target health IT system. More often these health IT systems are EHRs. In this chapter, we investigate two key aspects of the integration of data into EHRs and health IT systems: the semantic and temporal alignment of data, or synchronization, to ensure proper posting into the record at the appropriate time.
