ABSTRACT

Introduction The fantasy is no-cost, standards-based, “plug-and-play” interoperability for all the data that would improve care, medical learning, and management within and downstream from the EMR. Indeed, learning developed using EMR output would complete the loop, flowing seamlessly back into EMRs to adjust cognitive assistance to incorporate evidence-based improvements into care. For some, the notion of a single EMR might become outmoded, replaced by a set of standardized modules bought freely from a robust, competitive “app store.”
