ABSTRACT
Light is a powerful tool. Any latent print development process should be preceded by a nondestructive visual examination of the item of interest using oblique lighting: shining a beam of white light at oblique angles to the surface. Oblique lighting allows the forensic scientist to observe details on a surface where light and shadow are created by the light beam.
