ABSTRACT

The purpose of comparing palm prints, as with fingerprints, is to determine whether an unknown, latent print and a known print originate from the same source. ACE-V methodology is employed to analyze the first-, second-, and third-level details in latent palm prints. A latent palm print may be as small as a fingerprint or as large as the entire palm. The challenge when comparing latent palm prints is to determine their orientation and location within known palm prints. There are numerous patterns of ridge flow and creases within the palm. These common patterns are used to determine the location of interest and orientation of the latent, though not every individual palm print will display every feature of ridge flow and creases discussed below (Figure 17.1).
