ABSTRACT

Forensic science is defined as any science applied to matters of the court. All forensic scientists testify to their actions and conclusions in a court of law as expert witnesses. An expert witness, as defined by the Federal Rule of Evidence 702 (FRE 702), is any individual who is more knowledgeable about a particular topic than the average person by means of education, training, and experience. Expert witnesses may testify to their opinions, while lay witnesses may only testify to what they observed or experienced.
