Pages 38

In this chapter, we will examine ten cases involving shooters aged twenty-five to twenty-nine. This age group is the largest group of shooters in our study. The ten cases include:

• Lee Welch, who killed an officer after killing his wife and taking his young daughter as a hostage

• Jesse Mathews, who killed an officer during the robbery of a pawn shop

• Cesar Leon, who killed an officer during a traffic stop • Jayson Eggenberg, who killed an officer who intervened in a

roadside argument between him and his estranged wife • Matthew Connor, who killed an officer who came to his

home to serve a warrant for his arrest • Joshua Russell, who killed an officer during a foot pursuit • Christopher Hodges, who killed an officer who stopped to

investigate during a roadside argument between him and his girlfriend

• Skyler Barbee, who executed an officer who was leaving a call at his neighbor’s home

• Lamont Pride, who murdered an officer while fleeing a robbery • Alan Sylte, who killed an officer who responded to a call of

domestic violence at his girlfriend’s home In this group, we will begin to see a change in the circumstances in

which these offenders encounter law enforcement and the outcomes

of the incidents. Obsessive relationships, deteriorating marriages, and involvement in crimes in progress compose the bulk of the backstory of these cases.
