Protective equipment can be off the shelf or customized. Advantages of off-the-shelf equipment include immediate use and possible cost savings. However, proper sizing may be an issue, and this is where customized equipment offers an advantage. Modication of equipment to provide a more comfortable or functional t may result in loss of protective properties. Additionally, the modier of the equipment may become liable if injury ensues. Injury liability as a result of equipment inadequacy or defect may fall to the manufacturer.
