ABSTRACT

The rst step is to be able to document the crime scene. This includes constructing a drawing of the scene to scale and recording either with photographs and/or video, the crime scene. Specic measurements need to be included of where items are found in relation to doorways, windows, a victim, and so on. Once evidence is located, photographs of the evidence should be taken in relation to other items within the crime scene, as well as photographs of the evidence up close with and without a scale. The purpose of documentation is to be able to re-create the crime scene at the forensic laboratory. The location and position of the evidence may be useful information to the forensic analyst during examination.
