ABSTRACT
Introduction is chapter will discuss the nexus between hazards analysis and planning, emphasizing disaster resilience and how it ts within the concepts of hazards risk management, sustainable development, hazard mitigation, and climate change adaptation. e hazard mitigation plan provides a tool to link the concepts discussed throughout the text, such as the identication and analysis of hazards; the use of techniques to assess social, economic, and environmental vulnerability (i.e., spatial analysis, modeling, and economic loss estimation); and the development of risk management or hazard mitigation strategies and their application to at-risk individuals, groups, and institutions. is chapter will conclude with a discussion of land-use planning tools and processes and their potential to achieve disasterresilient communities.
