ABSTRACT
Relationship issues and problems can be a major factor, especially if a police officer is contemplating suicide. In the police academy, I was told by my homeroom instructor that many officers who are married will be divorced by the time they finish their career. I wondered silently, why is this so, and is it due from the stress of the job? A vast majority of studies have indicated that my homeroom instructor was correct in his prediction. Statistics show that close to 80% of police officers who are married at the time they enter the Police Academy go through a divorce once they are on the job.
