ABSTRACT
There are a number of characteristics of process operations that distinguish them from discrete parts assembly operations, characteristics that require a somewhat different approach to the applications of Lean principles, as described in Lean for the Process Industries-Dealing With Complexity. In this chapter, we’ll focus on those with a significant impact on how a VSM should be drawn. Appendix A highlights some of the others.
