ABSTRACT

Do you have a preparedness plan? Some call it a readiness plan; others have various labels for it. Are you prepared for a terrorist attack? If an earthquake or tornado struck your facility, would you be able to activate a response and recovery plan? Do you have one or both? In some organizations, a preparedness plan might be found as a component of the organization’s security plan, emergency response plan, business continuity, or continuity of operations plan. Is your organization totally prepared? Is your plan located on a bookshelf with a little bit of dust on it or in your head? Over the years of reviewing hundreds of private and public sector organization plans for terrorism response, I often found that most of the plans were outdated or not in existence. Management’s answers for not having a documented plan for terrorism often went like this: “We don’t need a written plan; all of our lead personnel know what to do.”
