Risk assessment and risk management are the basis on which the work for protection of the victims of threats and violence rests. Cases of threats and violence committed toward a family member or someone that is close to the victim are difficult to work with because the relationship between the victim and the perpetrator can be very strong. To prevent further victimization, it is important to understand these difficulties in order to construct the best caseby-case risk management plan with the most effective protective actions. This chapter will focus on the outcome of developmental work done during the last decade by the Swedish police, together with a group of researchers, on risk assessment and risk management in the areas of intimate partner violence, stalking-related violence, and honor-related violence.
