ABSTRACT

THIS CHAPTER EXAMINES the "nuts and bolts" of P-M analysis through an example of its application at a plant that manufactures hydraulic solenoid valves.

BACKGROUND OF PROBLEM (HYDRAULIC SOLENOID VALVE DEFECTS) As shown in Figure 5-1, the hydraulic solenoid valve consists of a body, spool, coil, and movable iron core. Two common problems with this type of solenoid valve are (1) vibration and noise if the core is not fitted precisely and (2) coil burnout.
