ABSTRACT

Addiction: Physical effects of a drug on a person, manifested by an extreme craving for the drug. If deprived of the drug, withdrawal will set in.

Deciliter: One-tenth of a liter. 100 mL. Dependence: A psychological phenomenon. Any physical changes that may accom-

pany regular use of a drug are insufficient to cause addiction. There may still be a powerful craving for the drug but failure to take the drug does not cause withdrawal.
