ABSTRACT
As Chapters 3 and 5 will show the effects of fire on a steel structure are to make
its structural behaviour more complicated than that at ambient temperature.
To aid understanding of the fire effects and to provide a reference point
for further discussions, this chapter provides a brief introduction to steel
structural behaviour and relevant design methods at ambient temperature.
