ABSTRACT
THE CLIENT/SERVER ARCHITECTURE came about out of the need to bring computing power, information, and decision-making down to the user, so business could respond faster to customer needs, competitive pressures, and market dynamics. This was a welcome alternative to the overly bureaucratic mainframe environment where departments, workgroups, and individuals typically had to put in written requests for the information they needed.
