ABSTRACT

One of the most frequently used models to explain cultural differences was developed by Dutchman Geert Hofstede. His books Cultures and Organizations: Software of the Mind (Hofstede et al. 2010) and Culture’s Consequences (Hofstede 2001) contain many insights founded on academic research into culture. Hofstede developed his model on the basis of research within IBM, and identified five dimensions of national culture. This chapter defines these dimensions and describes their implications for the business environment.
