ABSTRACT

The superglue fuming is mostly performed in the laboratory in a fuming chamber. The vapors created by heating superglue in a small aluminum container adhere to the ridge detail on the evidence, making it visible. From time to time, impression evidence in the form of shoe, tire, or tool impressions is present at the crime scene. Depending on the surface of the suspected shoe impression, different processing methods can be applied from dusting for latent shoe impressions to casting with dental stone for shoe and tire impressions in dirt or soil. The best method to preserve a three-dimensional shoe impression in dirt, sand, or snow is to cast the impression with dental stone. Tire impressions are cast in the same method and with the same material as shoe impressions. The basic method used to collect inked impressions from the sole of a shoe can also be applied to lift inked impressions from tires.
