ABSTRACT

A number of other major jurisdictions soon formed squads, using a combination of training from military explosive ordnance disposal and extended trips to existing civilian squads. In 1970, the rest class attended the Hazardous Devices School (HDS), conducted at the US Army's Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, Alabama. To maintain hazardous device certication, the refresher program was reformatted into a one-week recertication program, which incorporates two days of intensive recertication testing with three days of update training. HDS also offers a one-week robotics course, designed as a program for advanced operation training, plus training and maintenance skills. HDS instructors deploy in support of major special events planning, often providing programs for local teams in reparation for events such as Super Bowl, and political conventions. The Department of Homeland Security Transportation Safety Administration, whose jurisdiction has been enlarged to cover all aspects of transportation, often works to offer local training.
