ABSTRACT
In this chapter we will look at some of the reasons why it is important for you to understand microbiology and infectious diseases as a health care professional. As we examine some modern examples of pathogenic, or disease-causing, microbes and how they affect us every day, we will briefly tie them into some historical perspectives.
