ABSTRACT

This chapter situates the study in existing scholarly and research traditions, and traces the trends and patterns of demographic shift in American higher education due to globalization, which has implications for how and what we teach in our college writing classes. It also presents the exigencies and gaps, and research goals and questions, and limitations of the qualitative study conducted in a writing class for this monograph. The final few sections of the chapter define key terms, discuss research methods used for the study, and outline the chapter division.
